Bayern Munich president, Uli Hoeness, has confirmed the club is working on a deal for Manchester City’s Leroy Sane.

Sane is the club’s number one choice, to replace outgoing veteran duo Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery, after Callum Hudson-Odoi’s Achilles injury.

The 23-year-old, who joined City from Schalke for £37million in 2016, made 47 appearances for City in 2018-19, scoring 16 goals.

But only 30 of those games were starts and Sane only completed the full 90 minutes on 16 occasions.

Now, after star striker Robert Lewandowski declared that Sane is “a player who can immediately take us higher, who improves the team”, Hoeness confirmed that they are pushing to land Sane.

“We are dealing with this player,” Hoeness told Suddeutsche Zeitung.

Anthony Joshua’s Rematch With Andy Ruiz Jr Set At Madison Square Garden

Following Anthony Joshua’s shocking loss to Andy Ruiz Jr three weeks ago, the British-Nigerian’s team has expectedly triggered the rematch clause in the contract, and the fight is set to take place at the scene of the initial defeat: Madison Square Garden in New York.

The Independent reports that things are already being put in place to see that the fight happens in November or December. Honestly, the return to this venue is a bit worrying, seeing as the fight with Ruiz was the first time Joshua took on an opponent in the US, and we all know how that ended.

However, Joshua feels differently. According to his promoter, Eddie Hearn, the boxer feels it would be special to rewrite history and get the win at the same venue where he suffered his first professional loss. With the positive vibes he’s been giving off since that loss, we’re feeling a bit hopeful.

So, colour us anxious for the announcement of a rematch date.

Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo has been named the NBA’s most valuable player of the 2018-19 season.

The 24-year-old made an emotional acceptance speech after becoming the youngest MVP in eight years.

The 2019 All-Star team captain averaged 27.7 points and 12.5 rebounds over 72 games, guiding his side to the Eastern Conference finals.

Antetokounmpo beat last year’s winner James Harden to the award.

The ‘Greek Freak’ wept on stage as he paid a moving tribute to this late father Charles, who died in 2017.

“I want to thank my dad. Obviously, my dad is not here with me,” he told the crowd in California,

“Two years ago, I had a goal in my head that I was going to be the best player in the league and do whatever it takes to help my team win, and I’m going to win everything.

“Every day I step on the floor, I always think of my dad and that motivates me and pushes me to play harder and move forward.

“Even when my body is sore, even when I don’t feel like playing, I always show up and do the right thing.”

“I want to thank my team, my team-mates. MVP is not about stats and numbers. It is all about winning and all about making sure you go out there and do everything you can to win. I think that is what we did as a team.”

Bucks general manager Jon Horst said: “We are beyond proud of Giannis for earning his first MVP award. This well-deserved honour is due to his relentless hard work and dedication in becoming the most impactful player in the NBA.

“Giannis propelled the Bucks to great heights last season with his leadership, drive and unselfish play. His grace on and off the court has made him one of the most admired players in the world.”

Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, who averaged 21.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game, won the rookie of the Year award.

Milwaukee Bucks’ Mike Budenholzer was named coach of the year after leading his side to a 60-22 record, their best since the 1980-81 season.

2019 AFCON: Kodjia Scores Winner As Ivory Coast Beat South Africa

Jonathan Kodjia struck the only goal as Ivory Coast defeated South Africa 1-0 in the steamy Cairo heat on Monday in a meeting of former Africa Cup of Nations champions.

Ivory Coast won the title for the second time in 2015 but crashed out in the group stage two years ago without a victory and are trying to build a team to match that of its golden generation.

Ivory Coast coach Ibrahim Kamara sees Nicolas Pepe as one the young stars who can banish the memories of a disastrous title defence, and the in-demand Lille forward soon demonstrated his talent with a jinking run that ended with Kodjia snatching at a shot from close range.

South Africa, who failed to qualify for the 2017 edition, on the other hand have arrived in Egypt as one of the most unpredictable teams.

Bafana Bafana scaled the heights at the outset of 2019 qualifying by winning 2-0 in Nigeria, then sank into mediocrity by drawing 0-0 away to lowly-ranked Seychelles.

In the first half at Al Salam Stadium where temperatures again peaked around 37 Celsius (98.6 Fahrenheit) they were largely limited to counter-attacks, captain Thulani Hlatshwayo going closest with a header that brushed the roof of the net.

Ivory Coast headed home early in Gabon after they were held by Togo and the Democratic Republic of Congo and lost against Morocco, but they nearly took the lead here twice in quick succession around the half-hour.

After a foul on the edge of the South Africa box Pepe, the 22-goal second highest French Ligue 1 scorer last season behind Kylian Mbappe, slammed a thunderous free-kick against the crossbar with Ronwen Williams rooted to the spot.

The South Africa goalkeeper then produced a stunning reflex save to keep Kodjia out moments later as the Aston Villa forward ran clean through before needlessly opting for power over precision.

Amid the energy-sapping heat both sides made a laboured start to the second half but it eventually burst into life when Kodjia atoned for his earlier miss.

Max Gradel was released into space down the left and the winger whipped a precise early ball across to an unmarked Kodjia who stabbed beyond Williams.

South Africa substitute Lars Veldwijk tumbled to the ground under pressure from Serge Kanon late on as they pressed for an equaliser, while Pepe was denied a second for Ivory Coast from another free-kick following a flying save by Williams.
